1996 Christopher Radko, “Nutcracker Suite II” Ornaments, Boxed Set, Ltd Ed. Over 120 years ago, on December 17, 1892, the curtain rose on the grand stage of the Maryinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia, for the first performance of The Nutcracker. The famous ballet was commissioned by Tsar Alexander III, and the music was composed by Tchaikovsky, who had previously composed Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. Americans first saw the Nutcracker in New York in 1949 but, it was George Balanchine whose version in 1954 made the Nutcracker a true holiday classic. This series, made entirely by European glass blowers and painters, was offered as a three year series, concluding in 1997. This boxed set of three is Nutcracker Suite II, 1996. This is a Limited Edition set, 8,152 of 15000, hand-numbered on their tags. The ornaments are characters from the Nutcracker each about 6 in height. Hand-blown they are still sealed in their bags. Created for Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary, Radko created some very hard to get ornaments limited to 1955 each, not individually numbered. This one features Disneyland’s TOMORROWLAND with the Goofy in a spaceship, dressed in spacesuit. Radko Disney is NEW, Never Used or Displayed, With Original Box & Tag.
