DSD Italian Collection Beauty and the Beast Set of 5 Ornaments 2008 New
From David Strand Designs’s Italian Collection : “Beauty and the Beast”. Set of 5 Ornaments. Produced in Italy in 2008. A charming interpretation of characters from Beauty and the Beast produced in Italy for David Strand Designs. Beauty and the Beast is a fairy tale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and first published in 1740. Since then the tale has been rewritten numerous times and adapted for stage, television and film productions, notably by Disney in 1991. That film was Disney’s 30th animated feature, went on to be extremely successful at the box office and along the way won a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar. Beauty and the Beast tells the story of an arrogant young man who was cursed and magically transformed into a monster while his servants were transformed into household objects. To break the curse the Beast must learn to love and be loved in return before the last pedal falls from an enchanted rose. This set of 5 ornaments pays tribute to Beauty and the Beast through representations of several of the household objects in the story: Miss Armoire/The Wardrobe #0706401 7″, Candelabra/Lumiere #0706201 4 3/4″, Tick Tock/Cogsworth #0706301 6 1/2 and Tea For Two/Mrs. Potts & Chip #0706101 5″ & 4″. The set of ornaments is a testament to the skills and resourcefulness of the artisans who created them. They were all free-blown, requiring the skill of extremely talented glassblowers. They were then hand-painted and hand-glittered by decorators who created distinctive facial expressions and enchanting costumes. The ornaments reference beloved characters known the world over, yet with strikingly original forms and vivid decorations. This set of 5 ornaments based upon characters from Beauty and the Beast is new, has never been displayed and comes with attached hangtags.
