Christopher Radko Exquisite Globe Ornament “Crystal Cracker”, #1010385. As the name suggests, this stunning globe ornament produced in Poland for Christopher Radko in 2003 features an elegant nutcracker within a striking cylindrical globe. He stands regal and proud, wearing a highly detailed and colorful uniform, surrounded by equally colorful wrapped presents. What makes this ornament so remarkable are the elaborate base and crown and the distinctive cylindrical glass globe. The base is conical in form and highly detailed both in shape and decoration. The regal crown-shaped top is a show-stopper. It’s painted with rich, deep red and elegant gold lacquers and is highlighted with simulated jewels and gold glitter. The globe surrounding the nutcracker was decorated with snowflakes in fine white glitter, suggestive of falling snow. The use of glass globes in ornaments is a European tradition, similar to wire-wrapped ornaments, in that the globe highlights what is within it and creates an interior space at which the viewer is encouraged to look.
